Dear Clubs,
As communicated to Brisbane Women’s Premier League and Women’s Capital League clubs on 10 February 2021, Coomera Colts have withdrawn from the Brisbane Women’s Premier League. This now leaves 8 teams remaining in the BWPL, meaning that the configuration for the competition must be changed and a complete redraw of fixtures needs to occur.
The Competitions Team are currently working through this and trying to have minimal changes made to the originally published fixtures. The newly created draft draw will be released to affected Clubs in the coming days. The new format for the BWPL will consist of a total of 21 rounds, which necessitates the competition commencing earlier than originally planned. Round 1 for the BWPL will now commence on the weekend of March 12.
In addition to the alterations made for the BWPL, the Elaine Watson Cup will also have a new format and be redrawn. To remain consistent with providing Clubs with pre-season fixtures, the Elaine Watson Cup will now have 2 groups of 5 teams from the Women’s Capital League in the Pool Stages. There will be 5 rounds of Pool Stages, where the top 4 teams from each Pool will progress to knockout stages and join the BWPL teams. The winners from the knockout rounds will progress to the Quarter Finals and so on. Dates for these ties will be as follows:
Group Stage Round 1 – 12-14 March
Group Stage Round 2 – 19-21 March
Group Stage Round 3 – 26-28 March
Group Stage Round 4 – 13–14 April
Group Stage Round 5 – 11-12 May
Knockout Stage Round 1 – 8/9 June
Quarter-Finals – 6/7 July
Semi-Finals – 3/4 August
Grand Final – 4 September
I would like to thank the Clubs who have made contact to provide their feedback and support over the changes that were proposed and can confirm that the above is how the structure will remain for 2021.
Please disseminate this accordingly to your club members as required.
Kind Regards,
Sarah Dixon
