This coming weekend will mark the kick-off of the 2020 Elaine Watson Cup with teams from the Brisbane Women’s Premier League and Women’s Capital League coming face to face as they look to dislodge long time cup holders Peninsula Power from reclaiming the silverware.
There are 7 ties for Round 1 along with 9 teams having been drawn byes through to a 16 team Round 2.
Round 1 gets underway on Friday night with newcomers to the Women’s Capital League Olympic FC, at home to BWPL side Annerley, whilst defending champions Peninsula Power, looking to make it four cup successes in a row, make the short trip to Wolter Park in defense of their crown when they face Women’s Capital League side Albany Creek Excelsior on Sunday to complete the round.
It’s an interesting round in that all the ties feature Brisbane Women’s Premier League sides against Women’s Capital League sides. The potential for an upset is on the cards and success may well come down to which side is best prepared following pre-season. Maybe the one to look out for could be Grange Thistle, promoted to BWPL, against Taringa Rovers who were relegated from the BWPL in 2019. It ought to be a tight contest on paper.
FB Media TV will have highlights from two of the ties over the weekend.
