There’s no rest for the sides that progressed through to the next round of the FFA Cup from last weekend with Round 3 following on swiftly this coming weekend.
25 ties are scheduled for Round 3 with a dizzy mix of teams from across the South East Queensland zones once again coming face to face. The round also sees the 24 teams that received byes from Round 2 making their debuts in this season’s FFA Cup and hoping to reach the next round where the NPL and FQPL sides come into the competition.
So which ties stand out…
Vilic Law Capital League 2 side Pine Hills, who swept aside Vilic Law Capital League 1’s Mt Gravatt, host Gold Coast Premier League side and last season’s Round of 32 finalists Coomera Colts.
It’s expected to be a tougher assignment for Pine Hills but one that may be closer than many think. Coomera dumped out Sunshine Coast Premier League champions Noosa Lions in Round 2 and will be looking at earning passage through to Round 4 where undoubtedly they will be favourites to progress.
An all Vilic Law Capital League 3 affair sees a local derby with returning side to the Vilic Law Capital Leagues Brighton Bulldogs up against lcoal rivals from across the Hornibrook Bridge Redcliffe PCYC.
Brighton enjoyed a solid win in Round 2, knocking out Gold Coast side Pacific Pines. This tie against Redcliffe will be a good test to see where they’re at with the league season just around the corner. Should be a cracking tie.
A couple of sides endured epic encounters from the last round. Western Spirit had to do things the hard way against Bardon Latrobe from a division below them with a 7-6 penalty shootout win that now sees them up against reigning Gold Coast Premier League champions Burleigh Heads.
Brisbane Premier League side Brisbane Knights looked to be cruising to victory when they were 3-1 up at half time away to Sunshine Coast’s Nambour Yandina Utd FC. The hosts however, found another gear to come from behind in what ended as an 11 goal thriller with Nambour edging the tie 6-5.
Their reward being a road trip to Ipswich City in Round 3 which will feature as one of our FB Media TV games this weekend. The Bulls reached Round 3 courtesy of a 2-0 success away at Annerley. This tie could well prove to be a classic FFA Cup encounter.
